By 2026, Artificial Intelligence is "scrubbed in" to the operating room. Computer Vision algorithms analyze the live video feed from the laparoscope or robot to identify critical structures like the ureters and major blood vessels.
If a surgeon's instrument moves too close to a danger zone, the AI provides a visual or auditory "No-Fly Zone" alert.
Outside the OR, AI models predict which patients are at high risk for complications like an ileus (where the bowel "goes to sleep" after surgery). By identifying these patients preoperatively, the surgical team can implement proactive measures, such as specific prokinetic medications or aggressive early mobilization, to ensure the recovery stays on track.
